Rogue Engineering E60 M5 Diablo Exhaust

Hear and feel the incredibly deep tone that retains the unmistakable V10 wail at high RPMs with the Rogue Engineering E60 M5 DIABLO exhaust.  After nearly a year of development, we're ready to release the beast into the marketplace!

Rogue Engineering is proud to introduce our E60 M5 DIABLO exhaust.  A cursory glance at the exhaust easily shows how this exhaust excels in both performance while saving weight.  However, a closer look will show the pure artistry of its construction and elements of unique design.

Just Mufflers?  Where's the rest?
The Rogue Engineering E60 M5 Diablo is more than just great sounding exhaust.  By studying the factory exhaust system, it just made sense to develop the exhaust the way we did.

The factory system uses catalytic converters and resonator in the system to help control sound and emissions.  Simply removing these items from the system would theoretically add power, but also add unwanted noise levels.  Other companies that offer "full" exhaust solutions (complete front to back) like to make these infinitesimal power increases but really are trying to justify the added cost and tooling of the extra tubing and welding required to produce this "system".  When you weigh the benefits, it just did not make sense to us when developing a full replacement system.

Pros and Cons of "Full" Exhaust System Solutions

Pros

Cons
  • Lighter than stock
  • Slight power increase
  • No cutting required
  • Increased cost, typically 2x or 3x the cost of just mufflers
  • Drone in cabin from lack of resonators
  • Exhaust volume may be too much, and cannot be controlled
  • No longer meets emissions without cats
  • Fit may be an issue, with much more factory parts being replaced

After studying the benefits of a muffler-only replacement, we worked on the sound.  Internal muffler tuning done the old fashioned way, tweaking the dimensions of the muffler, the internal perforated tubing (perforation size, spacing, and tubing length) are all factored in to get the exact desired sound which makes it unmistakably a Rogue Engineering DIABLO for the E60 M5.  Since this muffler design is a straight-through design, the performance gain from the decrease in restriction is an expected benefit as well.

Review from RE E60 M5 Diablo Owner

It's lighter hearted in the lower revs but screams in the 4000+. It's a subtler scream, not a meister/e-race type of "growl." Honestly, everyone has the Eisen setups; I had the e-sport setup, sold it, and now have the e-race setup sitting in my closet. Don't get me wrong; it has a great note but I wanted something different. I wanted an exhaust that wasn't as flamboyant when I go to the grocery store but shouts when I hit the pedal. I saw the prototype video from a year back for the Rogue setup on Youtube and decided to go that route; I've only had the setup for less than a day but am happier with the RE choice. To each his own on how they want their exhaust note to sound. Besides, I'm more of a performance guy; the weight reduction and increased throttle response in the higher revs is exactly what I wanted. The e-race ovals are nice looking but the larger RE tips fill that dreaded gap in the rear just as well IMHO. Not to phuck anyone up with a visual but I get a chubby with my setup. This setup may not be for everyone but it's definitely for me.

E60 M5 Diablo Features
The RE E60 M5 Diablo is made to fit exactly like factory.  Features of E60 M5 Diablo include:

  • Weighs only 21 lbs. per side (stock is 38 lbs. per side).  Saves 34 lbs.!
  • 100% T-304 stainless steel construction and internals, a majority of the exhaust made from 16 gauge stainless steel.
  • Fully mandrel bent tubing, no crimps or flattened areas
  • Mil-finished pipes and muffler, mirror polished stainless steel quad 89mm straight cut, staggered tips.  Completely fills in factory valence without modifications.
  • Full TIG welded construction, no lock seams or pinch welds.
  • Factory-like hangers for OEM fit
  • Rogue Engineering logo tastefully stamped in the body of the muffler
  • Flow-through design does not create muffler "hot spots" found on chambered mufflers
  • Optimized tubing sizes and minimized bends maintain exhaust velocity without compromising necessary backpressure
  • Deep, throaty tone, without the drone.
  • Will not change ground clearance
  • Will not void factory warranty
  • Will not affect emissions
  • No permanent modifications required for installation

All Stainless Steel is the same, right?  WRONG!
All Rogue Engineering Diablo exhaust are produced using only 100% full T-304 stainless steel because of its consistent strength characteristics, corrosion resistance, and wide range of materials (important for controlling sound and exhaust flow).  Recently, we examined a well known exhaust brand only to discover the use of 20 gauge stainless steel (stainless is typically sold by weight) throughout the muffler body.  While great for reducing weight, this is not a good practice when trying to build a product to last.  This common practice of weight (and cost) savings occurs in European and US made exhausts.  Rogue Engineering does not prescribe to this practice in their production exhausts!  We want you to enjoy the exhausts for many years to come, even if it means sacrificing some weight savings (all Rogue Engineering exhausts are lighter than stock units).

Beware of some companies that pre-coat their exhaust products with "thermal coatings".  In fact, they may be hiding inferior stainless steel or inferior welding processes.  Rogue Engineering Diablo exhausts are always TIG welded and never coated.

Some companies have chosen to build their "stainless steel" exhausts with Grade 409 stainless, because it is less expensive than 304.  While Grade 409 will resist atmospheric and exhaust gas corrosion, a light surface rust will form is most all atmospheres.

Installation Notes
KD Tools 2031 Exhaust and Tailpipe Cutter
We have excellent success using the KD Tools 2031 exhaust cutter for the installation of this exhaust.  It cuts straight, without a saw blade, and leaves a clean, chamfered edge.  At less than $30, a worthwhile purchase available from SJ Discount Tools.
