The oval tips, with their unique look, are my personal favorite exhaust tips, but the dual round tips look great, too. Either muffler is a great choice for your M3 and, at 95db, is legal in California and won't annoy your passengers.
|
Features: |
-
100% T-304 stainless. The same high-quality materials you'll find on full cat-back systems costing $2500 to $3000
-
X-merge design of the x-pipe is more efficient and a better design that improves exhaust scavenging and, therefore, performance It's more difficult to make and more expensive, but Borla strives to use only the best materials and techniques
-
X-PIPE LOCATION - It has been re-located to maximize performance over the entire RPM range.
-
Track-only Vehicles - Cars running Euro style headers with no cats for the track will experience improved performance, not only in the mid and upper range, but all throughout the RPM range, just like cars running emissions legal OEM US spec headers with catalytic converters.
-
ELIMINATES RASP If you hate rasp, this is one of the best solutions
-
NO DRONE - You won't find yourself with headaches or your wife/girlfriend refusing to ride in your car (complaints I have heard from other systems). If you commute or spend a lot of time in your M3, this is a great system.
-
Deep and throaty and as close to the sound of a V-8 you'll get from an I-6
-
Works with the existing Borla mufflers so there should be no fitment issues with other brands of mufflers that are designed to work with the stock midpipe.
-
It's complete midpipe solution that allows you to retain your stock midpipe and return it to stock when it's time to part ways with your baby (unlike hacking up and welding in other aftermarket resonators).
-
Backed with a Million-Mile warranty by a large and well-respected manufacturer of OEM exhausts that's been in business for over 25 years.

good view of the mufflers. This is a true dual exhaust system from the resonator at the front of the midpipe ALL the way back! |

The tips line up really well. I personally like the rectangular (aka oval) tips because they are different. There is NO question you have a high-end aftermarket performance exhaust when people see these tips on your Borla muffler.

|
ATTENTION!!
Planning on using the Borla midpipe V2 with another brand of muffler?
Most aftermarket mufflers use the OEM style muffler connection. You'll need part numbers 17 & 18 shown in the picture below. These are both available on your stock midpipe, or you can acquire them from your local BMW dealer. Part #17 is a fiber gasket and can be brittle, so use a lubricant and be gentle taking it off.

BPS Product Review:
This is the exhaust we had on our E46 M3. It is very deep and throaty with all the rasp eliminated. It has less of a midrange tone and more low frequencies than the MagnaFlow and has absolutely NO DRONE. It is quieter in the car and a better choice for those of you that spend a lot of time commuting and/or traveling.
Performance Gains
The Baseline peak HP with stock exhaust was 259.54. With the Borla midpipe and muffler, together with the aFe intake and SuperChips software, the peak HP was 292.65. Using 20% as the drive train loss, this would extrapolate to 365.81HP at the crank. For similar results recommend our Stage III performance package you can find here.
Weight Savings:
The stock exhaust weighs 86 pounds. The Borla midpipe and Borla muffler together weigh just 60 pounds. Borla mufflers weigh 30 pounds, and the midpipe weighs 30 pounds.
This recording is of our 2004 E46 M3. It was recorded on our ProTools HDII system using an AKG C414-TLII microphone placed approximately 3 feet behind the car and 12 inches above the tips.

I promise you will be happy with this exhaust. The combination of the Borla midpipe and a matching round or oval tip muffler is your best option for performance, looks, sound and quality.

Here is an independent 3rd party review of the product by Ronin009, a member of the M3forum:
"I stopped by Bimmer Performance Store today to take a listen to the Borla setup on Bob's M3. I must say that I was very impressed with the system."
"1st, I must mention how well the tips of his exhaust (the dual oval tip design) fit perfectly on the M3s diffuser. That is a very good first sign of excellent build quality."
"2nd, the sound of the Borla with the mid pipes was to die for. It was very, very deep and aggressive sounding (but not too loud), and the mid pipes with the resonator completely eliminates the rasp."
"3rd, based on Bob's assumption on the price point (nothing yet official has been released from Borla), the price for a full cat back system will be unbeatable."
"4th, I must say the Bob is a very stand up guy. I would have no problems doing business with him or recommending him to everyone on this board."
"I know it will still be a few weeks before the system is ready for public consumption, but if the price is right, it looks to be a great system for anyone that is looking to get a cat back exhaust, that eliminates the rasp and sounds great."
"EDIT: 5th, with the Borla system there is absolutely no drone. When Bob was driving me around in his car, at one point he rolled up the windows and we could easily have a conversation. You could still hear the exhaust, but didn't have that annoying drone that gives you a headache after a while."
Here is the opinion of Sean Amerson from Discovery-Automotive:
"I was shocked'
First let me say I don't sell Borla or even have an account with them. So you may be asking yourself why would a vendor be giving his impressions on something he doesn't even sell?.. Seems silly right?
Well I met up with some guys today at the So-Cal Euro event and there was Bob from Bimmer Performance store with his M3 Borla Mid pipe and exhaust. Now I've been hearing about this magical mid pipe since Bob first hatched the idea of having the folks at Borla make it months ago' and I always in the back of my muffler snob mind said.. 'Bob.. it's a Borla pfft'
I'm here today to officially tell you I was wrong.
Bob hops in and turns it over.. ok no biggie..in fact I think its a little too quiet and i'm not loving the single oval tips, then he guns it and leaves it at WOT for a sec.. .. wait' wth' do that again..
There's no rasp.. I mean zero nada nuthin!
Other then Klangford I think I've probably heard every configurations of m3 exhaust out there.. and I could swear if I closed my eyes.. I couldn't tell you that was an M3.. its THAT much different.
Now granted purists will argue that a little rasp is trademark of the M3s high pitched growl.. but for me the rasp has always been an issue.. and the in cabin drone.. forget about it.. I HATE DRONE..
The Borla mid pipe/exhaust combo transforms the M3 into a different car.
Now I can't tell you about fit/finish price point or performance gains.. frankly I have no clue!
What I can tell you is if you want the rasp gone.. the Borla mid pipe IMHO is the answer.
Just my .02 from an opinionated exhaust snob." |
